As part of the entry requirements for the cruise there is the submission of a medical screening form.
This needs to be filled in by yourself, electronically signed and then part B must be completed by your doctor and signed – within 12 weeks before your departure date. This form can then be scanned and electronically uploaded to a 3rd party portal – No earlier than 8 weeks prior to departure, but no later than 4 weeks prior to departure – so that if they have any questions there is still time to address these.
This to me was probably the ‘worst’ part of the preparation. It’s like the visa application or waiting in line at immigration. The more official the process, the more anxious I get – just because.
But I got the ok from my doctor – and a Typhoid shot to keep my vaccination-regiment valid. I asked for a prescription for sea-sickness tablets. The patches would have been first prize – but they are not available in South Africa. I got a homeopathic tincture as well – recommended by a pharmacist – Pegasus v.m.t. 30c (Vertigo, Morning and travel sickness).
Forms were duely submitted and a week later, following some email follow-up I received email confirmation that I have been cleared for travel. Yay!
Now this is real! I’ve held off with some items pending outcome of the medical – like purchasing a pre-paid data package.
Drake Passage, here we come!
