Sea Day – The final stretch… on to The Beagle Channel

21 November 2022

This was a sad day – mourning the return of our boat group patches (and muck boots). In my case Deck 8 between 10:45 and 11:30. For some reason that was really hard. I think Hurtigruten will make a fortune if they provide the option to purchase a similar patch on board or even online after the cruise. But alas as far as I know, no such option available at this date.

Bye bye Weddell Seal Patch …..

Apart from that I do not remember much detail from the bulk of the day.

Somewhere the morning I had to apologise that I missed the show.. as apparently I had been missed. I think Luciano was sceptical of the packing explanation, but when history inadvertently repeated itself on the February 2023 trip, we had to laugh.

Yeah, there’s no pills for this.

According to pictures on my phone I had a double portion cake and a drink in the Explorer Lounge @ 15:03 and a vanilla milkshake in Fredheim @ 18:17.

I watched bidmaster Zoe run the Hurtigruten Foundation Charity Auction. That was an event in itself. I have some very interesting recollections, but again… meds.. I don’t know if they can be trusted.

Give Zoe a mike and a hammer and she can (and will) sell anything.

Earlier the day I took a picture of the Map on which the Expedition Team tracked our cruise. Now taken off its place on the wall and duly signed and “sealed” 😛 This was also destined to go under Zoe’s hammer.

Signed with ♥ your expedition team

I actually don’t know if this memory is real, but I seem to remember she got so carried away, she tried to auction off the hammer as well – maybe I was hallucinating.

I gave further ‘formal gatherings’ a wide bearth for the rest of the day – Recap of Highlights and Captain’s Farewell and Photographer’s recap video. Hindsight – I probably should have attended, but at that point I just could not – too many people, too many emotions.

And at 18:33 – Land… No more Drake Passage.

Land!

Around 21:00 a rainbow and sunset followed in quick succession… as we started entering the Beagle channel.

My Facebook post that evening could not have portrayed the sentiment any better…
